Set the scene.
Għargħur became a parish in July 1610 under Bishop Gargallo. Construction of the present church also began in 1610.
Here’s the twist.
Dedicated to the apostle St Bartholomew, the building was consecrated by Bishop Alpheran de Bussan in April 1736.
Why it still matters.
Do the subtraction: the beginning of construction and consecration are separated by 126 years. That does not automatically mean uninterrupted building work; the dates mark different stages in a church’s life.
