OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

A statue of St Sebastian was raised in thanks after the plague of 1813. A church dedicated to the saint was built nearby in 1889.

Here’s the twist.

That church became a vice-parish in 1918 and a parish in 1936. It eventually proved too small for the community.

Why it still matters.

A larger church was built a short distance away. Follow the sequence from statue to smaller church to larger parish building: devotion and population growth together reshaped this part of Qormi.
