Set the scene.
A chapel to the Conversion of St Paul existed before 1564. Bishop Gargallo selected it from the village’s small churches when establishing the parish in 1598.
Here’s the twist.
Work on the present Doric-style church began in 1726 under parish priest Ġużepp Caruana. The building was completed in 1740.
Why it still matters.
Consecration followed in 1784. Notice that choosing a parish church, constructing its replacement and consecrating it belong to separate chapters.
