OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

Built in 1710 under Grand Master Perellos, the Naxxar windmill served Malta’s agricultural economy before falling into disrepair.

Here’s the twist.

Its restoration repaired the masonry and reconstructed wooden sails using oak, fir and olive wood. An internal lift and exhibition spaces accompanied the conservation work.

Why it still matters.

Why use different woods? That question opens a bigger story about choosing materials for a machine exposed to wind and weather.
