On 30 November 2013 eleven-year-old Cauchi won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. Twelve contestants took part in the event hosted by Ukraine’s public broadcaster.
Here’s the twist.
Her song was The Start. Ukraine finished second and Belarus third: the result placed Malta at the top of this junior competition.
Why it still matters.
Part of the prize was a visit to the following year’s Eurovision in Copenhagen. Keep Junior Eurovision distinct from the adult contest when counting Malta’s wins.
