OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

The company formed to operate sea transport for passengers, freight and mail. This was the beginning of Gozo Channel, rather than the beginning of all travel between the islands.

Here’s the twist.

Its early vessels included Għawdex, bought in 1979, followed by Melitaland and Mġarr in early 1980. Initially they made about eight round trips daily.

Why it still matters.

A seasonal Sicily service began in 1981 and ended in 1995. The company’s history includes routes that disappeared as well as the crossing people recognise today.
