OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

Ta’ Bistra lies between ancient Melite and Salina’s historic harbour. These catacombs show that burial grounds extended beyond Rabat.

Here’s the twist.

Recorded in the nineteenth century, the site was investigated by Charles Zammit in 1933 before road construction covered part of it.

Why it still matters.

Later investigations changed the picture again. The farmhouse above the tombs adds another layer: the same landscape could serve the dead, farmers and modern travellers.
