Set the scene.
On 20 July 1626, Grand Master Antoine de Paule established a new town and named it Paula in his own honour.
Here’s the twist.
Its streets followed a grid plan. A church dedicated to St Ubaldesca was the first building, tying the new town to the Order’s religious world.
Why it still matters.
Think of the name and the street plan as two parts of the same project. One commemorated the founder; the other organised how people would move and live.
