Set the scene.
In early Valletta, the street was called Strada del Palazzo because a Grand Master’s palace was planned near the present Auberge de Castille site.
Here’s the twist.
The street later became Strada dell’Albergia di Francia. During French rule it was Rue du Genie, and Strada Mezzodi remained a later familiar name.
Why it still matters.
A sign can preserve a plan that changed before completion. Follow the sequence and the street becomes a record of proposed buildings, actual institutions and successive administrations.
