Set the scene.
Valletta and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum entered the World Heritage List in 1980. UNESCO’s entry for the temples carries two dates: 1980 and 1992.
Here’s the twist.
UNESCO lists three cultural World Heritage Sites for Malta. Its Tentative List is a separate list of places the country may consider putting forward.
Why it still matters.
Try sorting two labels: “inscribed” and “tentative”. They are different stages. A place appearing on a heritage website is not automatically an inscribed World Heritage property.
