OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

Plans for the present parish church began in 1665. Its first building stone was laid in 1669.

Here’s the twist.

The building takes the form of a Latin cross. That shape organises the interior, with the long body meeting the arms of the transept.

Why it still matters.

Later art added new voices, including work by Emvin Cremona and Paul Camilleri Cauchi. Try sketching the floor plan before looking at individual paintings: structure and decoration tell different chapters.
