OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

A church dedicated to Mary’s Assumption existed in Għaxaq by 1511. Parish status followed in January 1626.

Here’s the twist.

The community built a new church, completed in 1655. Around eighty years later, another building campaign produced the church associated with the village today.

Why it still matters.

Imagine placing the successive outlines on top of one another. A dedication can remain familiar while the building serving it changes dramatically.
