OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

The parish has medieval roots, but the foundation stone of this church was laid in 1672. Its consecration followed in 1755.

Here’s the twist.

Marble covers the interior, earning it the nickname Marble Basilica. Look for the wooden statue of St George, carved by Pawlu Azzopardi in 1838.

Why it still matters.

Try a material hunt: wood, marble and the metal canopy each create a different effect. A church interior can be a collection of crafts as well as paintings.
