OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

A late Neolithic temple became the centre of a Phoenician-Punic sanctuary associated with Astarte. In Roman times the sanctuary honoured Hera-Juno.

Here’s the twist.

Later, its courtyard was roofed and turned into a Christian basilica with a baptismal font. The site eventually lost its religious role and became agricultural land.

Why it still matters.

Think of the remains as overlapping plans. A wall can survive while its meaning changes: reusing a place does not mean keeping the same beliefs.
