OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

An earlier Augustinian church was begun in 1571 under Girolamo Cassar. Giuseppe Bonnici built the present church in 1765.

Here’s the twist.

Its consecration took place in 1906. It did not become a parish church until 1968, under Archbishop Mikiel Gonzi.

Why it still matters.

Try sorting the dates into three boxes: building, consecration and parish status. The last is much more recent than the surviving eighteenth-century structure.
