OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY
Set the scene.
The collection’s roots lie in a medicinal garden established around 1674 near Fort St Elmo and the Sacra Infermeria.
Here’s the twist.
Under British rule, plants moved to Il-Mall in Floriana. After Carolus Giacinto’s death in 1855, Professor Stefano Zerafa relocated the botanical gardens to Argotti.
Why it still matters.
Argotti itself combined two earlier private gardens. Follow the plants rather than just the walls: collections can travel, carrying scientific knowledge into new spaces.
