Set the scene.
The nineteen warehouses were built in 1752 for the Order and merchants. Andrea Belli designed the harbour-facing buildings associated with Grand Master Pinto.
Here’s the twist.
A bronze bust of Pinto stood above the central store’s doorway. Its unveiling on 10 August 1752 became a waterfront celebration.
Why it still matters.
Torches lit the wharf and an orchestra played on a barge. Warehouses might sound ordinary, but trade infrastructure could also become a stage for power.
