OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

The Luqa complex was developed from plans by architect T. H. Wyatt, with engineer Emanuele Luigi Galizia involved in its construction.

Here’s the twist.

Its layout separated male and female accommodation into two wings, with administration in the centre. Architecture helped organise everyday institutional life.

Why it still matters.

The name St Vincent de Paul Hospital was adopted in 1940. Later renamed Ħas-Serħ, the complex regained the saint’s name in the late 1980s.
