OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

Air Malta was established in March 1973. A parliamentary resolution authorised international services: launching an airline required preparation before passengers could board.

Here’s the twist.

Flying operations began with two Boeing 720 aircraft. Early destinations included Rome, Tripoli, London, Manchester, Frankfurt and Paris, connecting Malta with several cities.

Why it still matters.

Further firsts followed: a flight with entirely Maltese pilots in 1985 and an all-female crew in 1997. An airline’s history includes its people alongside its aircraft.
