Scouting was introduced in Valletta early in 1908, within months of the first troops forming in Britain. Formal recognition of the first local troops followed in 1909.
Here’s the twist.
The Maltese association registered as a branch of the British organisation in 1913. Starting activities and registering an organisation were separate steps.
Why it still matters.
In 1966 the Maltese association became independent. Youth movements have their own institutional histories, alongside the campfires, games and practical skills remembered by members.
