Set the scene.
Gozo Album records an earlier place name, Ta’ Ċangura, derived from a personal name or nickname.
Here’s the twist.
The present name came from a chapel dedicated to St Lawrence, standing in the area by at least 1575. The village lies below Ta’ Dbieġi hill.
Why it still matters.
Notice the change from a person’s everyday name to a religious dedication. The older label did not vanish from the historical record just because a newer identity became familiar.
