OKAY, HERE’S THE STORY

Set the scene.

The parish church is dedicated to the birth of the Virgin Mary. Its origins are connected with commemoration of the victory in the 1565 Great Siege.

Here’s the twist.

The Archdiocese cautiously attributes the early design, around 1580, to Vittorio Cassar. The parish itself dates to early 1581.

Why it still matters.

The church was consecrated in October 1743 and became a collegiate church in 1786. Notice the cautious word “attributed”: an architectural tradition is not always a documented signature.
